Heartburn/Acid Reflux and Stomach Acidity
Acid reflux and heartburn can be caused by multiple lifestyle and dietary issues. Chronic acid reflux can be dangerous and lead to cancerous changes. The most common cause of these symptoms is change in stomach acidity, either being too high or too low. These changes may also lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies further perpetuating the issues.
Symptom Evoking foods:
Caffeine, milk, chocolate, alcohol, citrus fruits, fermented foods, tomatoes, onions, peppermint, and fried foods.
Over consumption of high fat meals
Lack of diversity of fruits and veggies
Known food allergies such as: shellfish or peanuts
Lifestyle Habits to improve symptoms:
Limit consumption of food to two hours before going to bed. Make sure food is chewed sufficiently before swallowing to allow for better digestion.
Intermittent fasting: Start with 10 hour fast, increase to 12-16 hours as needed.
Drink half your body weight in ounces.
Eat a diversity of foods like organic vegetables, meats, low glycemic organic fruits, coconut products, beans, legumes, nuts & seeds.
Avoid gluten and dairy
Too much stomach acid: Calcium Carbonate// 600 mg 2x a day
Not enough stomach acid: 1-2 Tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with 18-24 oz of water, drink throughout the day.
HCL 650 mg per meal. To be monitored closely by physician.
Probiotics: 1-2 capsules/day
